TV Documentary by Sarah Derendinger, 27 Minutes

The Swiss composer and musician Fortunat Frölich travels with a traditional ad-hoc-choir to Morocco. Together with the Choeur du Maroc he performs in Rabat his intercultural choral work "Chanta o unda". Polyphonic songs of the Swiss minority of the Rumantsch meet ornamentations and quarter tones of the unisonous Moroccan songs. Written European culture meets oral Oriental culture.

The challenge is not only due to artistic difficulties, but also to different ways of life. The Moroccan female conductor Sanae El Amri believes that music is sent from God. Fortunat Frölich believes that it is something one can learn. Both know that their cooperation enrich eachother.

The director Sarah Derendinger has accompanied the choir from the first rehearsals until the premiere at the renowned Festival Mawazine in Rabat. Her film "Two Rivers – Two Songs" documents the difficulties of such a project, but also how music can cross the gap between two cultures.
