Architecture of good Fortune

A film by Michele Cirigliano and Anton von Bredow

Synopsis

Campione, an Italian enclave on Lake Lugano: for over a hundred years, the community has derived enormous wealth from the local casino. At the same time, a social and economic dependence on the gambling business has developed. After the sudden bankruptcy of the casino, the village is plunged into an existential crisis. Does Mario Botta's monumental building have a future?

A chorus of Campione's citizens recounts old dreams, memories, and new challenges. For example, former priest Eugenio, laid-off croupier Ivan, disillusioned young economist Deniz, and Tiziana, one of the first women to work at the Campione casino—they all look back and forward to a life in the shadow of a casino that once meant everything.

Their voices weave together to form a polyphonic portrait of a community in search of direction. Between memory, renewal, loss, and hope, the question arises: Can Campione reinvent itself?

In ARCHITECTURE OF GOOD FORTUNE, directors Michele Cirigliano and Anton von Bredow sensitively paint an optimistic portrait of a village and its residents who have never lost faith in themselves and their community.
