Les Dépossédés/Bittere Ernte

A film by Mathieu Roy

Synopsis

The film draws attention to a humanitarian catastrophe that affects about half of the world's population, but hardly penetrates our consciousness: the situation of farmers who produce food but usually do not have enough to feed themselves or - as often in these countries - fall into a debt trap that threatens their very existence. The film examines the causes of this misery and shows connections that refer to our economic system, but also to Switzerland as the seat of important agrochemical companies and hub of the food trade.
