Play - Don't Play

A film by Manfred Ferrari

Synopsis

Jürg Kienberger and Bruno Cathomas are two of the most important actors on German-speaking stages. What unifies them, is their Swiss and Grison Background; at the same time a burden as well as a rich fund. Jürg Kienberger, the shy musician, who grew up in the 5-star Hotel Waldhaus in Sils Maria near St. Moritz finds inspiration in his miraculous childhood. Bruno Cathomas, the wild beast, struggles with his narrow minded catholic background. Both aquire power from their past. They started their career as a sort of american dream and are now playing on the most important stages in Switzerland, Germany and Austria. The film follows Jürg Kienberger and Bruno Cathomas on several productions, where the actors open themselves up and share true emotions. Thereby, the film shows what drives the two antithetic actors and how far theatre can go.

«You can't be an actor without knowing who you are. Only the awareness of who you are makes you able to play.»
Bruno Cathomas
