The town of Kazanlak in the Bulgarian province is driven by the Arsenal weapons megafactory. It produces Kalashnikov assault rifles, mines and ammunition for Ukrainian forces around the clock, securing 9,000 jobs and local prosperity. However, the town is home to a profound paradox: many inhabitants feel a strong historical connection to Russia, while others simply long for peace. With remarkable sensitivity, Gabriel Tejedor paints an intimate portrait of a society grappling with a moral dilemma. The Big Boom asks the urgent question of our time: How can you remain a pacifist when your livelihood depends on the machinery of war?
